Re-store: Wellington Hangar, Brooklands Museum

Site responsive exhibition by 6plus2 Art Collective, 7-21 June 2014

In response to the structure and contents of the Grade 2 Listed Hangar, soon to be dismantled and reconstructed, the group present new work that explores some of the many connotations of renewal and restoration.

 Elevate I-III (2014) Oil on linen, triptych, 100 x 170 cm each

The triptych of paintings explore the boundaries of a frame within a frame. Based on windows situated high up in the hangar, rotational marks drive meaning by its very being, a propulsion and catalyst into existence. Each is an exercise of spinning and merging, marks playing with boundaries of light and dark spaces creating luminous portals that floats within dark and oily surroundings.

Wound (2014) Acrylic on linen, dimensions variable

3D work follows an inquiry into performance and material to create from. Remaining linen from the Elevate triptych is wound around the circumference of the little finger. Propulsion is applied, then solidified and obscured by paint; form emerges and the object arises. Contingent to a singular event, repetition underlines the search for knowledge, where things do not exactly match up but uncover a sublime force that goes beyond the artist.
