About Robyn Jacobs
I am a lifelong resident of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, with a BFA from Temple University. I work mostly in oils—portrait commissions and original artwork—but I also do murals in acrylics and a little design work in pen and ink.
The oils include scenes from the Bible and Greek mythology—such as Jacob Wrestling with the Angel (Behind Kennie's Market)—and also landscapes, portraits, nudes, and abstracts, done in one of three styles—abstract, semi-representational, and traditional.
In my abstract paintings I try to mesh the painterly illusions of depth and atmosphere with a "brush strokes on flat surface" approach to art. The semi-representational works also experimental with the balance between illusion and material, only with the emphasis reversed. Finally, the paintings done in a traditional style, mostly of scenes from the Bible and mythology, let viewers judge my interpretation and technique against two centuries of master painters, allowing me to experience panic and shame.
